5 Things to Do With the Kids This Summer
Summer is quickly approaching and my calendar is filling fast. Many of us get stuck in our mundane daily routines (which are great), but sometimes it’s nice to change things up a bit. Between weddings, graduations, and summer cookouts I am always looking for new things to do and try.
In my search for my next local adventure, I stumbled across several family-friendly and inexpensive activities around DFW.
Safari Splash
- What: A 14,000 square foot zero depth splash area. Safari Splash includes four slides, a water dump tower animal shaped water cannons and a designated toddler area for the smaller kiddos.
- When: Open seasonally, hours of operation Monday- Friday 10 a.m. to 5p.m. and Saturday- Sunday 10a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Where: Fort Worth Zoo- 1989 Colonial Parkway, Fort Worth TX 76110
- Cost: $5 additional to your regular Zoo admission. Get discounted Zoo admission at your local FTWCCU Branch. Adult tickets- $11 and Children tickets $8.
Critter Kingdom
- What: Enjoy the museum’s vast collection of bugs, butterflies, and birds in Critter Kingdom. This debut Collection Showcase is the launch of the Museum’s 75th Anniversary
- When: Daily now through September 1st
- Where: Fort Worth Museum of Science and History- 1600 Gendy Street Fort Worth Texas 76107
- Cost: Adult: $15, Junior (Children 2-12) $11 and Seniors (65+) $13, Museum members: Free
Coral Reef Adventure
- What: This story follows the husband and wife cinematography team of Howard and Michelle Hall on a 10 month quest taking audiences on a sighting of the South Pacific’s reefs. The film reveals both coral reefs’ remarkable donation to life and the looming dangers they face to survive.

Texas Rangers
- What: Take Me, or the family, Out to the Ballgame! Enjoy America’s favorite past time with some peanuts, cracker jacks and ball park nachos!
- When: Dates and time are subject to change due to weather conditions.

Dallas Roars
- What: Pick your favorite theme and stop by Cat Green for games, bounce houses, special activities (face painting, airbrush tattoos, obstacle courses, and green screen photos) and music from a DJ.
- When: Saturday and Sunday afternoons 1-5pm until May 22nd
- May 14-15 Pirates and Princesses – Break out your eye patches, parrot, tiaras, and gowns and let the imagination free.
- May 21-22 A Force for Good (Armed Forces Day) – Unleash your superpowers and dress accordingly as the Dallas Zoo honors those who serve our country and inspire your imaginations.

- Cost: Free- with regular Zoo admission; Adults $15, Children (3-11) $12, Seniors (65+) $12 Children two and younger are free.
